CIVIC ENGAGEMENT PROJECTS

Since 2010 I have created civic engagement projects for neighborhoods and cities lasting between two and three years. Working in communities to bring cultural experiences to the public usually not exposed to art and culture. This process starts with listening to people’s stories and transforming the oral history interview into a poem. The poetry becomes a gift to each person and becomes the starting point for these multi-layered engagement projects for communities. When the personal histories are shared through the confidential lens for the local community the work becomes mirror to a place in time. These projects have a long lasting impact in affirming the complex layers of local identity in celebrating the ordinary lives of local people.
