Spare Rib Revisited

In 2016 Carron was selected as the Chicago Swiss Artist in Residence to create a civic engagement project for the City of Lucerne, Switzerland. This project began in 2016 and ran to 2018 and overlapped with a project for the City of Liverpool, U.K. in 2017.

Lucerne, Switzerland, 2016 - 2018

In 2016, I was selected to be the Chicago Swiss artist in residence for the City of Lucerne, Switzerland. This project was supported by the Swiss Benevolent Society of Chicago and Chicago Sister Cities International. I proposed to interview eight women between the ages of 20 to 100. I interviewed the women from June to July 2016, conducted research and wrote the rough drafts of all eight poems. The drafts were performed for the participants at an end of residency dinner party I hosted at Heidi Rebsamen’s home. The collection of poetry became the starting point of interactive public performance and artwork. In 2018 I returned to Lucerne twice, once in June to perfrom the poetry for the participants and their families and secondly in October, 2018 where the work was performed at Woerdz 2018, Spoken Word Festival. This included an interactive public performance where I interviewed random members of the public and posted poetry to peoples homes for the duration of the festival weaving poetry through the city. I performed the Spare Rib Revisited Poetry at the Loge Theater and created a new interactive performance at the Sudpol entitled If my body were you that evolved out of the research for this project.

Lucerne

Liverpool, U.K. 2017

In 2017, I was invited to the City of Liverpool and interviewed eight women between the ages of 20 to 100 about the important life moments. The work was composed into poetry and this work has become the content of handmade books, prints and collages and a new interactive public performance piece called If my body were you? I toured this work to Maryland, USA, Sofia, Bulgaria, Riga, Latvia and at Women Made Gallery in Chicago, USA.
