Collage
New print collages to celebrate Arts Birthday on January 17, 2022. The first pieces were inspired by a cacti plant in an olive groove in Puglia, Italy and then abstracted from there.
Print and Collage
The first pieces were inspired by a cacti plant in an olive groove in Puglia, Italy in August 2021. Then I developed an abstract drawing where all the shapes and forms were interconnected like a cacti plant. Form these pieces certain shapes and forms started to speak out. I then experimented with fusing the shapes I’d cut out from prints with heat press. Nothing goes to waste when I working in the studio and the process is a visual conversation. The abandoned shapes are then used to create compositions as well and it has been fun to play with luminescent colours in these works.

4 X 4 Series
The heat press prints and collage series were directly inspired by the Trompe L’oeil paintings. In this collage opposite each four squares construct an abstract spiral.
Print collage
Fusing print in experimental processes of collage is part of my making and thinking process as an artist. This collage is constructed out of an archival print of a portrait drawing and then adding print textures and paint to add details to surfaces.
Elephant Moon
There are three print collage pieces in this edition and each collage responds to the time of day: day, dusk, and midnight. This print is dusk and it is inspired by a Dream Mind poem written for Rosa Gaia Saunders entitled Under the Lens. Through the process of print the poem became an interactive public performance that travelled through Chicago parks in 2015 as an extension of the City Alive with Dreams project.
